SIOUX FALLS — A year ago, the Colman-Egan girls took down one of the oldest Howard Wood Dakota Relays records when they broke Burke’s 1978 record in the sprint medley relay (4:10.01).

The Burke girls do hold the longest standing girls record at Howard Wood in the 1,600-meter relay (4:03.94).

A number of records could again be under assault as athletes take to the track on Friday afternoon.

Long Jump: The current record is (19-0) from 2017 and at least two athletes have exceeded that mark this season. Sioux Falls Washington’s Nyariek Kur (19-4.75) and Bennett County’s Reagan O’Neill (19-0.5) could both challenge the record. 

Triple Jump: The current record is held by former Brookings standout, Alexis Gannon (39-8.25) from 2014. Kur has already jumped 39-10.75 earlier this season. 

A year ago, the Sioux Falls Christian and Colman-Egan girls rewrote the record books. No record seems to be safe with the Sioux Falls Christian girls but look for a close attempt at Madison’s 1,600-meter relay record (4:01.50) from 2017. 

In the AA girls relays the Brandon Valley girls ran a 9:21.71 on April 22. If the Lynx run with a full squad (two girls competing in the Special-800) they could challenge Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s record (9:08.61) from 2005. 

In 2009, the Sioux City East, Iowa, sprint medley team ran a 4:02.27. Look for teams from Spearfish, Brandon Valley and O’Gorman to approach that record.
